The case is China renews Google license, ending standoff involved cencorship in Mainland China

Google has renewed its license with the Chinese government to continue operating in China, ending a standoff over censorship on July,9,2010. People who live in mainland have to click a link to the Google HK site. For some reason, Google has been stopped search engine by the Chinese Government. Now, after renewing of Google’s ICP license, the Google can continue operating in the communist country.
I think that it is more like a political issue because of the censor is narrow in mainland China. I agree that they decide to continue their search engine service because people wherever they live have right to access to what they want to know.
I think it is a best way of talking to government that achieves an agreement of operating in the communist country.

Look up "Propaganda techniques on wikipedia.org and read through the entry. Then find an advertisement online that uses at least two propaganda techniques described in the wikipedia article. Explain what the techniques are and how they are used. Add a link to the ad.

The 1946 Campbell's Soup advertisement features Campbell’s chicken soup in vintage style and depicts a relationship of men and women in this advertisement.

The first propaganda techniques in this advertisement is Common man, which is attempts to convince the audience that the propagandist’s positions reflect the common sense of the people. The woman as a housewife should be cook at home which presents a woman who wears apron making a chicken soup. On the contrary, the man stands behind her with a smoking cigar image which represents the dominant role of society is always man. Their pose of this couple reflect the position of men and women in the society in 1940s and 1950s. In addition, the target audience is not only the housewife, but also the man who get married or still single want to make their own dinner by using Campbell’s Soup. The reason is the Beautiful people which is the second propaganda technique advertiser used.
Advertiser uses “I courted an angel…and married a cook” which makes other people think that if they buy Campbell soup, they will happy like this couple. The attraction of happiness is depicted by Advertisers.

The reporter was trying to be objective to report the news with no facial expression, such as laughing, or sad. The tone maintain the same level, which is more like a neutral way. The stories they chosen were happened today or previous. The local news covers most of the programs.

On Wikipedia.org, look up "social networking websites." About how many sites are listed? Which sites have you heard of? Do you know of any that aren't listed? Research and describe a site you've never heard of.

How do you, personally, use social networking? Which sites do you use? How would you improve the site(s) you use? Describe one incident in which social networking got you into trouble or really helped you out. (If you have never used a social networking site, then interview someone who has.)

There are approximately 185 social networking sites listed on Wikipedia. I have heard of Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, Flickr, and so on. I know one site named Douban ( www.douban.com), which is very popular social networking example that aren’t listed. It is more like a facebook-like site, though Douban has its own feature that appeals more than 42,930,000 people in China. The main difference is the people who have accounts at Douban are categorized by their interests, such as, the favorite music style, the best movie, or even their favorite books. In addition, people can write blogs, create albums, or even add friends as facebook.
Now, I usually use facebook to contact with my friends in U.S and use Douban to contact my friends who live in China. Mostly, I share my photos and post some blogs on line. I think that the most thing I did is just sharing information with friends.

• Answer: In Mainland China, if movies relate or concern the truth which is considered as a sensitive fact by government, then movies will be blocked. Such as, the background of Summer Palace was setting at the time of Tiananmen Square incident happened which was censored by Chinese government. People won’t be watch Summer Palace at cinema even though Summer Palace was the only Asian film in competition for the Palme d'Or at the 2006 Cannes Film Festival.

I asked my grandmother who is 78 year old. According to her memory, she said that going to movie of her earlier year in China was more like an open-staged show. All of people who live in the village called HuaiRou in Beijing were going to watch movie together in 1950. People were hanging out with friends and family together which was like an event in village. Sometimes, open-staged show began with folk dancing performances. Then, the movie was introduced by host which was talking about a story of Anti-Japanese War. She said that people reacted excited. The reason was because the story based on real history.

• Concept – This is a movie magazine that focus on the film critics and the stories beyond the films. The name of magazine, Close-up, like its literal meaning, a photograph taken from a short distance that gives a very detailed picture. I plan to focus on news and stories in process of making film and also the movie critics.

• Readers – people who really love watching movie and DVD, who are the age from 20 to 40. They intent to explore interesting thing from different types of movies and have their own opinion of movie. Sometimes, they would love to explore the new arrival on internet; sometimes, they suppose to write some critics or articles of movie they watched at their blog.

1. Little Prince is in my English booklist top three which published in 1943, wrote by French aviator Antoine de Saint-Exupery. This novella has been translated into more than 180 languages. The story involves the author’s aviation experiences which drawn on the same experiences for the plot of The Little Prince. The Little Prince tells a story about the pilot, whose plane broke down and forced to land away from the densely on the sub, when a fascinating and mysterious little boy appears and asks the pilot to paint a lamb. He is the little Prince, purity, blue, from an unknown asteroid, love to ask questions of other people’s problems are never answered. The little prince explored the planet and visited the King, businessman, lamplighter, geographer, drunkard and conceited man respectively. Each of them has a conversation with the little prince. Then the values and thoughts of life and loneliness reveal from each conversation. For instance, I remember that the little prince ask a question about what does businessman do with his own stars. The businessman answered that “I administer them, and count them and recount them, and then I put them in the bank.” Comparing with businessman, the answer of little prince’s is totally different. He said, “I myself own a flower," he continued his conversation with the businessman, "which I water every day. I own three volcanoes, which I clean out every week (for I also clean out the one that is extinct; one never knows). It is of some use to my volcanoes, and it is of some use to my flower, that I own them. But you are of no use to the stars..." A romantic monetary philosophy is revealed from their conversation which inspired me a lot during my childhood.

2. The second one is Gone with the Rainy Season, which is Sanmao’s work, one of my favorite authors. As a pseudonym, Sanmao, her Chinese name was Chenping, a popular Taiwanese author during her era. She is such a legend in her own time. She has read much classic Chinese literature at the age of five. Through her early year of education, she had conflicts with her teacher, including an incident in which she said she wanted to be a garbage collector when she grew up. Then, she studied in Spain, Germany and then went to the Sahara desert and married a Spanish man named Jose Maria Quero Y Ruiz in 1974, whom she met in Madrid seven years before while she was a student. Later on, she published her first work, entitled The Stories of the Sahara in 1976, which she took her own experience in the Sahara Desert as a background of this fictionalized-autobiographical work. After her husband died from a diving accident, she decided to go back to Taiwan and then traveled to Central and South America. At her age of 48, she committed a suicide. The reason of suiside is still a myth. Finally, she wrote around 20 books, including a script and many of fictionalized-autobiographical works. I read all of her works during the period of my middle school. I cannot tell you which one is my favorite one because of her works just like an entire journey of her real life. From the golden age of her teenage to her life in the Sahara Desert, her works were such a bunch of interesting and mysterious stories. Sometimes, I cannot figure out which part was real or fabricate in the works. I think that the most attraction is Sanmao brings her own stories to her works which opens a unique way to learn the world. The book, Gone with the Rainy Season is one of the popular books, which portrays many of stories during her teenage.

3. The third one should be the Pride and prejudice, which wrote by British novelist Jane Austen, published in 1813. The story bases on the protagonist Elizabeth Bennet’s love story in the early 19th century England. Some of people define Pride and Prejudice as a love story because of the plot is develops in terms of the relationship of Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy. Somehow, in my opinion, the love story of Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy reveals the issue of western social class in Britain. Jane’s sharp observation of manner and moral in the early 19th century reflects the reality of the western culture and the constraint of tradition.

To what extent, movie as one of the most important media, will influence on our life?
Fisrtly, I will do interviews with my friends and also searching data online. Then, I will use the survey methods to collect research data. At last, I will analyze the results of those collective data which will relate to the terminology from the textbook, such as, social learning theory, individual differences theory and so no.

Assignment 1: Media Autobiography

For our generation, we grew up with watching television because the internet industry was not developing full-fledged during 1990s. I recalled that the many channels we learn the news was newspapers, radio, televisions respectively. Especially in China, the most popular way is watching television during 1990s. For instance, the CCTV News, as a daily news program was involved in public’s daily life. Usually, family members sit in front of Television and share their opinions together. Right now, the things changed, this News program still popular but not the only way to learn the news because its controlled by government, sometimes, the news transmit and shape in their own way. The internet has become a necessity in our daily life. Especially, I am chat with my family and friends everyday because of they are all in China which is long distance that I only can see them through the computer camera. Also, I am taking a glance over the portals, such as, Yahoo, Google, and Douban (which is the sort of Facebook in Chinese version). Since I arriving the United States, I usually use Google Map to figure that how to go to my destination. Then, the radio might be my second choice to catch the news. Sometimes, I listen to my friend’s program online but just for fun. In prints industry, I usually read books every day and study. The newspapers and magazine I usually go to library to read it in the United States. On the contrary, In China ord generation like my grandparents read newspapers and books every day. I remember that one of my grandmother’s favorite genres of books is detective novels.
The last two, recordings and movie are involved in my life too. Firstly, I study aboard now, so I usually practice guitar and record my songs. Sometimes I update on the www.tudou.com which is the most popular video website in China, just like YouTube in the United States. I think that it is such a combination of media in my life. The last one, movie is one of my favorite media accompanied with my growing up. I have learned a lot from different type of movies. Such as Fight Club, Up, Yiyi and so on.
The media has become the most important part in my life and it still developing rapidly.
